Since taking office in 2024, 29 Liberian representatives and 12 senators have reportedly failed to declare their assets, sparking concerns over transparency and accountability in governance.
Councillor Findley Kangar, Chairman of the Ombudsman, labeled this non-compliance a serious violation, especially with a presidential moratorium in place to ease the process. Despite this, over 150 executive officials also remain non-compliant as of July 4, 2025.
Kangar urged President Joseph Boakai and the judiciary to urgently address the widespread disregard for asset declaration laws.
Notable figures such as former Speaker Alex Tyler and Senator Simeon Taylor are among those named. While the lawmakers are yet to respond, citizens are watching closely to see if the Ombudsman’s recommendations will be enforced.
