Tensions are rising in Liberia as civil rights leader Mulbah Morlu, Chairman of the Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND), claims he is facing police intimidation ahead of a nationwide protest planned for July 17.
The protest, themed “Enough is Enough,” aims to rally citizens against the worsening economic conditions and demand accountability from the government of President Joseph Boakai. Morlu has been vocal in mobilizing public support, citing the rising cost of living and perceived governance failures.
As the date draws closer, civil society groups are expressing concern over the government’s response to dissent. Whether the protest will be allowed to proceed peacefully remains to be seen, but calls for economic justice continue to grow louder across Liberia.
