Employees of Liberia’s Ministry of Transport staged a protest Thursday over plans to outsource core functions to Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI).
The move follows a recent announcement that vehicle registration and driver licensing responsibilities will shift to the Ministry of Justice, with LTMI set to oversee implementation.
For years, these services have been managed by the Transport Ministry, making the proposed transition a major shake-up in the sector.
Protesting staff argue that the change threatens their roles and undermines the ministry’s mandate, calling for transparency and stakeholder engagement before implementation.
