Liberia and Sierra Leone have jointly launched the ECOWAS Free Roaming service, enabling mobile subscribers in both countries to call, text, and browse without incurring international charges. The move is expected to boost cross-border communication and strengthen regional integration.
The launch was held on Monday in Monrovia during the opening of a three-day ECOWAS telecommunications conference hosted by the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA).
This initiative follows the 2017 ECOWAS Roaming Regulation, which seeks to make communication across West Africa more affordable and accessible.
Officials say the new framework will reduce costs for consumers, support trade, and enhance connectivity for millions across the region.
