In Liberia, the Ministry of Justice is seeking a court order to compel senior Senate officials to provide financial documents linked to about 27 million dollars in excess spending.
The move follows an audit by the General Audit Commission covering the Senate’s financial operations from Fiscal Year 2018/2019 through 2023.
The audit identified significant discrepancies between the Senate’s reported expenditures and the approved budget, as well as differences with figures from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
The investigation aims to determine whether public funds were misused, with several payments reportedly made without proper documentation.
