Liberian President Joseph Boakai has submitted a bill to the House of Representatives seeking to outlaw harmful traditional practices across the country.
The proposed legislation, titled “An Act to Ban Harmful Cultural Practices in Liberia,” was presented during the 4th Day Sitting of the 3rd Quarter of the 2nd Session of the 55th Legislature on October 22, 2025.
President Boakai said the bill fulfills the government’s duty to protect the dignity, rights, and health of all citizens, particularly women and children who remain vulnerable to certain customs.
The House Plenary has referred the bill to the Committees on Gender, Health, Internal Affairs, and Judiciary for review and recommendations within three weeks.
