Liberia on Wednesday held a solemn state funeral for former President Samuel K. Doe and his late wife, Nancy Doe, in a historic ceremony at the Centennial Pavilion in Monrovia.
The event, attended by current and former leaders, began with a military salute and a moment of silence in honour of the former president, who was assassinated during a coup. Family members, dignitaries, and ordinary citizens gathered to pay tribute to the couple.
The remains of the Does were later transported to Grand Gedeh County, where they will be reburied on Saturday. President Joseph Boakai had earlier announced plans for the reburial as part of national reconciliation efforts and to recognise the contributions of past leaders.
