Liberia has taken a major step toward forest-based climate solutions with the launch of its first National Carbon Market Policy Dialogue. The event, organized by the National Climate Change Secretariat under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), opened in Ganta, Nimba County.
The two-day forum brings together government ministries, lawmakers, development partners, and civil society representatives to deliberate on a policy framework aimed at shaping Liberia’s future carbon market.
According to the EPA, the policy under discussion is the result of months of nationwide consultations led by Liberian experts, in collaboration with international partners and the Coalition for Rainforest Nations.
Officials say the dialogue will help create a roadmap for a formal national carbon market, positioning Liberia to leverage its rich forest resources for sustainable climate and economic gains.
