Liberia has taken a major step towards inclusivity with the launch of the National Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities and the Group of 77 Residence. This initiative aims to provide critical support and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The $5 million project, spearheaded by Second Lady Stephenie Dahn-Koung, will offer housing, education, and vocational training. The first phase includes a residential facility for 200 members of the Group of 77 and a high school dedicated to quality education for disabled students.
Beyond education, the initiative will equip individuals with essential life skills and job training, ensuring long-term economic empowerment. Officials stress that this effort aligns with Liberia’s broader commitment to social inclusion and disability rights.
With this initiative, Liberia is setting a precedent for disability support in West Africa, reinforcing the need for policies that promote accessibility, dignity, and equal opportunities for all.
