Liberia has received a major petroleum shipment for the first time in over four decades, aiming to address fuel scarcity and stabilize prices across the country.
The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), acting on behalf of the government, imported 10,000 metric tons of fuel from Ghana. The shipment arrived on Tuesday, marking a critical step toward strengthening Liberia’s energy supply chain.
The milestone coincided with President Joseph Boakai’s inspection of a 17,000-cubic-meter gasoline tank facility in Monrovia. The tank is part of a broader initiative to enhance national fuel storage and includes a new petroleum testing lab.
Officials hope this move will reduce dependency on private importers, curb artificial scarcity, and bring long-term relief to consumers.
