A Kenyan national, Larnard Bonancy Arondo, has been convicted in Liberia on charges of drug importation, criminal conspiracy, and facilitation.

The case stems from February 2025, when Arondo attempted to smuggle 8.6 kilograms of heroin, valued at nearly USD 389,000, through Roberts International Airport. He arrived on Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET-933 from Thailand and was caught during a routine security search.

The prosecution, led by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), secured a guilty verdict after presenting compelling evidence of the smuggling attempt.

Authorities say the conviction underscores Liberia’s growing commitment to tackling the regional drug trade and ensuring that traffickers face strict consequences.
