Liberia’s House of Representatives has passed a landmark bill regulating the ownership, management, licensing, and operation of community radio stations across the country. The legislation received approval following a detailed assessment by the Joint Committee on Information, Broadcasting, and Judiciary.
Introduced by Representative Nyahn Flomo on June 4, 2024, the bill seeks to create a transparent and sustainable regulatory framework for community broadcasting. Lawmakers say the measure will strengthen the sector’s contribution to peacebuilding, national development, and the wider dissemination of public information.
The new law is expected to enhance accountability within the community radio landscape, ensuring stations operate in line with national standards while supporting broader democratic engagement.
