Iran has vowed to fast-track trials for people arrested over a massive wave of protests.
Tehran’s declaration on Wednesday came shortly after US President Donald Trump threatened “very strong action” if the nation’s judiciary goes ahead with hangings.
In the last two weeks, local and international rights groups have repeatedly condemned the crackdown on the demonstrations, which they say has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people.
The protests follow the spiralling economic challenges that have affected the purchasing power of households.
Iranian authorities, however, described the mass demonstrations as acts of terror similar to those committed by the Islamic State.
Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said on a visit to a prison holding protesters that anyone found guilty of crimes will be swiftly prosecuted.
