A deadly jihadist attack in Niger’s Tahoua region has claimed the lives of 40 soldiers, marking one of the deadliest assaults on the country’s military this year.
The attack took place on Sunday, May 27, at an army camp near the Mali border, a region frequently targeted by armed groups.
Several other soldiers were injured in the ambush, further highlighting the persistent threat of extremist violence in the central Sahel.
Authorities have yet to release details on the attackers, but operations are reportedly underway to secure the area and prevent further assaults.
