The Ivorian government has started implementing a ban on the import of occasional refrigerators and air conditioners.

Taking effected yesterday, Monday, the importation of second-hand refrigerators and air conditioners was announced by the Ivorian Deputy Director of the National Fund for Energy Management (FONAME) and Awareness Raising at the General Directorate of Energy, Assié Nouho Adamo, on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

According to the authority, from now on only new refrigerators, air conditioners and lamps that have an energy label that complies with the standards of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) will be authorized.

The main purpose of this decision is to guarantee the energy labels of the devices on the market and allow consumers to make their choice fully without inconvenience.

The decision is also part of a decree made by the government on November 27, 2020, in application of a directive from the UEMOA member states of June 2020.
