The Janjanbureh Kankurang Festival lit up the weekend, drawing thousands of people to the annual cultural celebration in The Gambia.
The event brought together various traditional masquerades, with the Kankurang at the centre, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage, history and identity.
As communities, performers and visitors gathered to celebrate tradition and unity, our reporter Rose Samara Cates caught up with Sanna Sidibeh, a member of the festival’s organising committee, to talk about this year’s event and its significance.
