As the national debate continues on unruly passengers’ behaviours, Aviation expert Olumide Ohunaya speaks with WADR on the recent Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) directive to switch off all electronic devices during takeoff and landing.

This comes as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on Thursday, says it met with Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in a recent air rage incident onboard an Ibom Air flight.

The meeting is part of the authority’s probe of the incident, which occurred on an Ibom Air flight inbound Lagos from Uyo.
The development comes hours after Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, announced the agency’s plan to engage the passenger in a social media post.

For Mr. Olumide, the NCAA’s directive on phone switch-off is a crucial safety measure, warning that while a single phone is unlikely to cause an accident, a collective failure to switch them to aeroplane mode could create radio frequency interference, impacting aircraft communication and navigation systems.

He urged public adherence to the rule rather than debate, citing the potential for minor disruptions to escalate into major safety issues.
