India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined world leaders in mourning the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, praising his leadership and wisdom on global affairs.

In a condolence message issued on Monday, Prime Minister Modi described Buhari as a statesman whose voice stood out in regional and international conversations. He noted Buhari’s contributions to strengthening Nigeria-India relations, particularly in the areas of trade, education, and security.

Modi extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, as well as to Buhari’s family, calling the late president a “man of principle and purpose.”

Buhari passed away in London at the age of 81 and is expected to be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
