The Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone has ordered the State to confiscate properties illegally acquired by former Minister of Works and Public Assets, Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay.
The ruling follows findings by the Justice William A. Atuguba Commission of Inquiry, which accused Sesay of acquiring state assets unlawfully during his tenure.
A panel of three judges unanimously upheld the Commission’s conclusions, dismissing Sesay’s appeals, rejecting Sesay’s claim that the Commission was improperly constituted, describing his arguments as “baseless.”
The Court of Appeal’s ruling confirmed the adverse findings made by the Commission of Inquiry, including the confiscation of all properties acquired by Sesay during his time in office.
In addition to losing his properties, Sesay was ordered to bear the costs of both the appeal proceedings and the Commission of Inquiry, which will be taxed if not agreed upon.
