Guinea’s Union of Republican Forces (UFR) has officially reconfirmed Sidya Touré as party leader during its recent congress, despite his current exile in Côte d’Ivoire. Touré, who served as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1999, received overwhelming support from party delegates.
While the UFR prepares to relaunch its political activities, Touré’s future candidacy remains uncertain. A draft constitution proposes an age cap of 80 for presidential contenders—a clause that would disqualify Touré, who just turned 80.
The party has sharply criticized the move, calling it an attempt to sideline influential opposition figures.
