In Guinea, over 20 human rights organizations have renewed calls for justice, marking one year since the disappearance of two prominent pro-democracy activists—Mamadou Billo Bah and Oumar Sylla, widely known as Foniké Menguè.

The pair, affiliated with the Front for the Defence of the Constitution (FNDC), were reportedly taken by armed men believed to be special forces during a raid in Conakry on July 9, 2024. Since then, there has been no official information on their whereabouts or well-being.

Groups including the FNDC and other civil society actors are urging authorities to launch a credible investigation into the incident, which they say underscores a deepening human rights crisis in the country.

The continued silence and inaction, they warn, threaten Guinea’s democratic future and erode public trust in state institutions.
