Lawyers and magistrates have begun a two-week strike over what they called arbitrary arrests of citizens by the ruling military authorities.

Gabriel Kamano, a spokesman for the protesting lawyers said they intend to protest against kidnappings, secret detention and other rights violations.

By noon on Tuesday, hours after the commencement of the strike, judicial proceedings including the historic trial over a 2009 massacre were disrupted.

Augustine Kollie reports.
