In an effort to support Guinea’s transition to constitutional order, the United Nations has deployed a mission to Conakry to evaluate the conditions for a future electoral process. This mission will assess both the legal and institutional frameworks in place and analyze the capacities and needs of key electoral stakeholders.
While this initiative aims to facilitate a smooth transition, opposition groups and civil society remain cautious, expressing hope that the mission will uphold the transition timetable established with ECOWAS in 2022. The results of the assessment are anticipated to shed light on Guinea’s path forward in restoring democratic governance.
