Guinea’s political scene is abuzz with debate following the electoral body’s announcement that presidential hopefuls must deposit 900 million Guinean francs — about 103,663 U.S. dollars — to qualify for the December 28, 2025 election.
The General Directorate of Elections, headed by Djenabou Touré, says the move aims to ensure only serious contenders enter the race.
However, critics argue that the high fee could exclude capable but less wealthy candidates, further widening the gap between political elites and ordinary citizens.
