In Guinea, the Conakry Court of Appeal has confirmed a two-year prison sentence for opposition leader Aliou Bah. The decision upholds a January ruling by the Kaloum Court of First Instance, which found him guilty of insulting the head of state.

Bah, who leads the Model party, has been a vocal critic of the current regime. His conviction has drawn attention both locally and internationally, with concerns raised about political freedoms and judicial independence.

Following the ruling, his legal team expressed disappointment and denounced the court’s decision. They revealed plans to consult with Bah before deciding on their next legal move.

The case has further heightened tensions between the government and opposition groups, sparking fresh debates on freedom of speech and the shrinking space for dissent in Guinea.
