Guinea’s interim government has kicked off a national biometric census aimed at registering all citizens and assigning them unique identifiers. The 45-day civil registration exercise will also serve as the foundation for compiling a new electoral register.
According to Minister of Territorial Administration, General Ibrahima Kalil Condé, the initiative is a crucial step toward organizing the constitutional referendum scheduled for September 21, 2025.
But the opposition, united under the Forces Vives de Guinée, has rejected the process. They accuse the military-led government of seeking to create a biased electoral register that favors the current leadership.
The opposition is demanding the establishment of an inclusive dialogue framework to define the electoral roadmap and ensure transparency in upcoming national votes.
