Guinea’s transitional government has announced an immediate suspension of all logging and timber export activities across the country.

The decision, made public this week, aims to safeguard the nation’s rapidly depleting forests and natural reserves. Authorities in Conakry say the move is part of a broader strategy to restore environmental control and curb illegal deforestation.

Environmental groups have welcomed the measure, urging strict enforcement and long-term forest management reforms.

Guinea’s forests are among West Africa’s richest in biodiversity but face increasing threats from commercial logging and land degradation.
