The Education Union in Guinea has suspended the nationwide teachers’ strike that has disrupted schools since December 1, 2025. The decision follows days of heightened tension and growing public pressure over the impact on the country’s education system.
Government officials have moved quickly to resume negotiations with union leaders in an effort to end the crisis. The prolonged standoff has crippled teaching activities nationwide and deepened concerns among parents and students.
The strike has also led to violence, resulting in two deaths and several injuries during clashes between protesters and security forces. Rights groups have since urged authorities to prioritize dialogue and de-escalation.
With talks now back on track, stakeholders are hopeful for a lasting solution. However, many remain cautious, noting that unresolved issues could easily spark renewed disruptions across Guinea’s already strained education sector.
