Guinea, the world’s leading producer of bauxite, is considering introducing export quotas for mining companies this month.

Sources say the move comes as global aluminum prices decline and shipping costs continue to rise.

The situation is putting pressure on revenues despite a 25 percent increase in Guinea’s bauxite exports in 2025.

More than 70 percent of the country’s bauxite exports are reportedly destined for China.
