Guinea’s National Agency for Health Security (ANSS) announced on Monday evening a confirmed case of monkeypox in the country.
This first confirmed case in the country was recorded in the commune of Macenta in the forest region of Guinea.
Local media reported that the patient is a 7-year-old girl, according to the confirmation sheet, which was taken on August 30 and the sample was sent to a virology research center.
As of August 26, Anss had announced nine suspected cases of monkeypox in Guinea.
Guinea is the third country in West Africa to report a case after Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire for this epidemic whose main focus is Central Africa, particularly the DR Congo.
Recall Monkeypox was declared a public health emergency of international concern by WHO on 14 July 2024 due to its alarming spread.
