The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has issued a strong warning of a nationwide media blackout on all police-related coverage if rising assaults on journalists are not addressed urgently.
This comes in the wake of more than 10 reported incidents, including the July 17 assault on journalists during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun and another on July 30 involving military officers.
Though the police have charged an officer in one of the incidents, the GJA insists that mere charges are not enough and is calling for swift and transparent prosecutions.
GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour condemned the attacks, calling them threats to democracy and press freedom in Ghana.
