The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is intensifying calls for the swift passage of the Conduct of Public Officers Bill to help curb corruption and promote transparency in the country’s public service. GII, the local chapter of Transparency International, says the bill is a necessary legal framework for ensuring ethical conduct among officeholders.
This renewed advocacy follows the recent unveiling of a Code of Conduct for political appointees by President John Mahama. The code sets clear guidelines on behavior, ethics, and how appointees must manage their personal and official duties to avoid conflicts of interest.
GII argues that while the president’s code is a step forward, it lacks the legal enforceability required to hold public officials accountable. The group believes passing the bill would provide clear sanctions for misconduct and protect the public interest.
As pressure mounts, citizens and civil society are watching closely to see whether Parliament will prioritize the legislation and strengthen Ghana’s fight against corruption.
