President John Mahama has issued an urgent call for renewed collective action to counter escalating instability across West Africa. Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day regional security conference in Accra, he warned that terrorism and violent extremism threaten every nation and demand an innovative, coordinated response beyond conventional approaches.
The Accra gathering united heads of state, ministers, ambassadors, and intelligence chiefs to rebuild fractured cooperation and address root causes of conflict. Mahama stressed that lasting security requires more than military solutions—highlighting healthcare access, infrastructure investment, and inclusive economic development as essential pillars for restoring trust and fostering peace.
The Ghanaian leader condemned the recent attack on Niger while underscoring that security threats ignore borders. His remarks emphasized the necessity of deeper regional coordination to prevent crises from metastasizing across the Sahel and coastal states alike.
ECOWAS Chairperson and Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio, alongside Liberian President Joseph Boakai, commended Ghana for convening the critical dialogue. Both leaders pledged enhanced intelligence-sharing and stronger multilateral cooperation to fortify West Africa’s collective resilience against emerging threats.
