Ghana’s Forestry Commission is pushing for stricter laws to curb illegal mining, particularly targeting the use of heavy machinery in galamsey operations.
Acting Chief Executive, Dr. Hugh Brown, argues that illegal miners often disable their equipment during raids to avoid confiscation.
He insists authorities should have the power to permanently demobilize such machinery to prevent its reuse in unlawful mining activities.
