In Ghana, the civil society group Democracy Hub has taken legal action against the government over what it describes as a “secret” agreement with the United States.
The group has filed a writ with the Supreme Court challenging a Memorandum of Understanding that allows Ghana to receive and temporarily detain deported West African nationals from the U.S.
According to Democracy Hub, the deal is unconstitutional and violates Ghana’s sovereignty and international human rights obligations.
The organization is seeking an injunction to suspend the agreement pending the court’s ruling on its legality.
