More than 52,000 registered voters in Ghana’s Eastern Region are heading to the polls today for the much-anticipated by-election in the Akwatia constituency.
The election follows the passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, in July 2025, prompting a fierce political contest.
While three parties are in the race, analysts see it as a two-horse battle between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Akwatia, known as a swing constituency, has a long history of closely fought parliamentary contests, making today’s vote one to watch.
