In Ghana, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel George, has given 62 affected radio stations a 30-day grace period to regularize their operations or risk losing their licenses permanently.

This follows the National Communications Authority’s directive to suspend these stations over breaches of the Electronic Communications Act. President John Mahama, emphasizing his commitment to media freedom, has since intervened, asking the NCA to work with the stations on compliance.

However, some minority MPs have criticized the president’s move, describing it as an overreach of executive power. The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association has also weighed in on the situation, calling for balanced enforcement and support for struggling media houses.
