Members of Ghana’s diaspora community are awaiting new timelines and modalities after the government temporarily suspended citizenship applications for people of African descent.

The programme, launched in 2016, was aimed at reconnecting descendants of Africans affected by the transatlantic slave trade with Ghana.

Authorities say the suspension follows concerns over costs, documentation requirements, and delays in processing, prompting a review of the initiative.
