Stakeholders in the peace and security sector are urging for greater female participation in peacebuilding initiatives in the subregion.
This call to action is based on recent data from the United Nations Office for West Africa in the Sahel (UNOWAS) and the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, which reveal a worrying trend.
It said conflict-related incidents in the region have increased by a substantial 43% over the past two years, resulting in more fatalities.
