In Accra, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has threatened to shut down all foreign-owned shops at Ghana’s biggest spare parts hub on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The Association says the drastic move comes after years of what it calls unfair competition from foreign retailers, accusing the government of failing to enforce investment laws meant to protect local businesses.
Leaders argue that their patience has run out and warn that unless authorities intervene with concrete action, traders will take matters into their own hands.
The planned closure raises concerns about escalating tensions in the spare parts sector, which remains a vital part of Ghana’s informal economy.
