Ghana’s Interior Minister has announced August 1, 2025, as the deadline for the registration of all mining machinery with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
In a statement, Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak warned that any equipment not registered by the deadline will be subject to confiscation, as part of efforts to tighten regulation in the mining sector.
The directive comes as President John Dramani Mahama declares illegal mining a national emergency, pledging stronger enforcement to curb the environmental and social impacts of the practice.
Authorities say the registration move is aimed at tracking equipment usage and deterring illegal mining operations across the country.
