Ghana has formally requested the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from the United States in connection with an ongoing corruption-related investigation.

The Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, disclosed that his office has forwarded the request to U.S. authorities, including one for an alleged accomplice, Ernest Akore.

Speaking at the government’s Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Dr Ayine said the process was initiated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on November 19.

He noted that the request seeks the commencement of formal extradition proceedings as investigations into the case continue.
