Policy think tank Imani Africa has projected that Ghana will save approximately $85 million over the next four years due to the restructuring of the Civil Service.
On January 9, President John Dramani Mahama signed the Civil Service Executive Instrument, 2025, reducing the number of ministries from 30 to 23. The move, implemented under Section 11, Subsection 3 of the Civil Service Act, 1993, is aimed at improving governance, enhancing efficiency, and reducing government expenditure.
The restructuring is part of broader efforts by the Mahama administration to address Ghana’s economic challenges and streamline public service operations.
