The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana has alleged that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is plotting to rig the December 7 elections. The opposition party claims that President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, to oversee the alleged rigging operations.
The NDC has called for Brigadier General Opoku’s immediate removal, stating that his continued role jeopardizes the integrity of the electoral process.
In response, the NPP has denied the accusations, branding them as baseless and an attempt by the NDC to cast doubt on the credibility of the upcoming polls. The ruling party reiterated its commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections.
The allegations have heightened political tensions as Ghana approaches one of its most closely watched elections. Observers are urging calm and adherence to democratic principles.
