The Inspector General of Police of Ghana, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured that they are working hard at ensuring that the service gets to a point where journalists in the country no longer feel threatened by them.
He explained that it is one of the measures the police are working at in their aim at becoming the best public institutions in the country.
While Ghana remains one of the most peaceful countries in the sub-region, there have been recent instances of the police manhandling journalists.
But speaking in Accra at the National Media Dialogues on Defending Media Freedom, in preparation towards the December 7 elections, Dr. Akuffo Dampare said a lot of work is being done to ensure that the media feels protected by the police, and not threatened by them in their line of work.
