On Monday, the Open Society Foundations (OSF) launched a new report in Accra examining the intersection of democracy and economic justice across Africa. The event brought together governance experts, activists, researchers, and the media from across the continent.

The report, The Nexus Between Democracy and Economic Justice in Africa, authored by Senegalese economist Dr. Ndongo Samba Sylla, highlights the erosion of democratic principles alongside rising economic inequality. It notes that nearly 297 million African youths are deprived of decent living conditions, while millions face poor education, limited healthcare access, and rights violations.

OSF says the findings will inform its new eight-year strategy to strengthen democratic institutions and actors across Africa. Speaking to WADR, Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze, Director of Democratic Futures in Africa at OSF, stressed the organisation’s commitment to turning challenges into opportunities for the continent.
