The Economic Community of West African States has begun steps to operationalise its Economic, Social and Cultural Council, known as ECOSOCC, as part of efforts to strengthen citizen participation and deepen regional integration.
The proposed council is expected to serve as a platform for engagement between ECOWAS institutions and non-state actors.
These include civil society organisations, the private sector, traditional authorities, academia, and community leaders across the region.
Officials say the initiative aims to enhance collaboration and ensure broader participation in the regional bloc’s decision-making processes.
