Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
Beginning today, Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26, 2025, all national flags will fly at half-mast across public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations in Ghana and abroad, in honour of her memory and her decades of service to the nation.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001, was renowned for her pioneering role in promoting women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development through the 31st December Women’s Movement.
Her tireless advocacy significantly shaped national policies on women’s rights and economic inclusion, particularly during Ghana’s transition toward democratic governance.
We have also been speaking to a section of Ghanaians on their fondest memories of the late former first lady and what they think is her legacy.
