Former President Nana Akufo-Addo faces backlash for his last-minute decision to suspend Ghana’s 45-year diplomatic relations with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

Announced on January 6, just before the administration ended, the decision cited neutrality on the Western Sahara dispute. Critics, including international relations analyst Oliver Barker-Vormawor, argue the move undermines Ghana’s historical support for liberation movements.

Barker-Vormawor has called on the new administration to restore ties, emphasizing the importance of Ghana’s long-standing solidarity with SADR.
