As Ghana prepares for the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7, 2025, the nation will witness another historic milestone—the swearing-in of its first female Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
A trailblazer in education and politics, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has previously served as Minister of Education and made history as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. Initially appointed as John Mahama’s running mate in the 2020 elections, her journey to this high office marks a momentous step for gender equality in Ghana, amplified by the recent passing of the Affirmative Action and Gender Equity law.
With an impressive academic and professional background, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has contributed extensively to literature, education, and women’s studies. Married with three children, she is a Christian and an active member of the Methodist Church, inspiring hope for women’s leadership across the country.
